(Woodstock, NY) May 19, 2014-The Woodstock Film Festival presented the Second Annual Taste of Woodstock on Wednesday, May 14. Over 125 guests came to delight their palates with great cuisine from over twenty local eateries.
Event goers walked throughout town, enjoying a lively atmosphere filled with tasty delights and live music. “What I enjoyed most was that everything was outdoors and it was a friendly atmosphere,” said Efrain Martinez of Bearsville. “Everyone presented the dishes in a spectacular way and the flavors were excellent.”
Local eateries offered samples of food and drink to guests, and participants voted for their favorite picks. Winners were chosen in six categories, including Main Course, Appetizer, Side Dish, Dessert, Best Beverage and Overall Favorite.
OVERALL FAVORITE went to Landau Grill, which featured their slow-cooked pork ribs with a house made BBQ sauce and slaw.
The best MAIN COURSE DISH went to Green Palate Vege-Terranean Grill for their veggie burger with special sauce and avocado spread.
As a first timer to this year’s Taste of Woodstock, Rick’s Wood-Fired Pizza took the prize for BEST APPETIZER for their assorted pizzas and mozzarella with tomato. According to the owner, Rick Sofo, “All of us at Rick's are immensely proud at being voted best in our category. We are also extremely grateful for the opportunity to help support the Woodstock Film Festival. It was a great turn out...everyone in such fine spirits, so very uplifting all around--the epitome of a win-win situation for one and all, including for the town of Woodstock as a whole!”
Bread Alone won for BEST SIDE DISH, which included forest mushroom toasts with crème fraiche, carrot soup with cardamon cream, and braised shortrib arancinis with horseradish gremoulata.
Black-Eyed Suzie’s won for BEST DESSERT for their earl grey tea cake with rhubarb icing.
Finally, the BEST BEVERAGE went to the category of beverages, including MacMurray Ranch wine, Keegan Ales, and T Salon.
The participants that voted were eligible for the drawing of two tickets to each party during the Woodstock Film Festival, taking place October 15-19. The parties include Opening Night party, Filmmaker’s party and the Maverick Awards. The winner was Francesca Szabadi of Hurley.
Overall, it was a fun-filled evening with proceeds benefitting THE FILM CENTER capital campaign. Year-round, THE FILM CENTER hosts filmmakers, film-related workshops, classes, special events and serves as a hub for the Woodstock Film Festival and Hudson Valley Film Commission. Funding will go towards building necessities, including roof replacement, insulation and other needed repairs.
Participants in this year’s event included: Binnewater, Bistro-to-Go, Black-Eyed Suzie's, Bread Alone, Catskill Mountain Pizza, Cucina, The Emerson, Garden Cafe, The Green Palate Vege-Terranean Grill, Keegan Ales, Landau Grill, Little Apple, Maria's Bazar, Mountain Gate Indian Restaurant, New World Home Cooking Co., Oriole 9, The Red Onion, Rick's Wood-Fired Pizza, Sunflower Natural Foods Market, Woodstock Emporium, Woodstock Wine & Liquors and YumYum Noodle Bar.
Restaurants that were not within walking distance were hosted at local businesses, including Dove’s Nest, Empty Spaces, Mirabai of Woodstock, The Center for Photography, Loominus Handwovens, Westwood Metes & Bounds Realty, and Lily Boutique.
Look for the third annual Taste of Woodstock in May 2015.
