The 14th Woodstock Film Festival Announces New Social Media Campaign
Festival teams up with students to educate and integrate local youth into 2013 events

Woodstock, NY (Aug. 2013)- The Woodstock Film Festival is excited to announce that the 14th annual event will see the involvement of social media in connecting festival attendees with film fans across the globe, utilizing a new social media campaign designed to integrate local students into festival publicity. The aim of online engagement is to increase communication between filmmakers, audiences and fans, fostering a dialogue with a focus on independent filmmaking.

The WFF Social Media Team, in collaboration with local teachers, have designed a program that offers local students the chance to take their interests in social media websites and refashion them as platforms of reporting, production and engagement. Starting in early September, students will participate in a series of workshops teaching corporate level social media campaign strategies and etiquette. Students will be divided during the festival between different teams that each center on a specific type of social media, including live blogging, tweeting, photographing, curating and filming. Tasked with reporting and generating WFF media content, students will hone their skills in film production, photography and journalism through the scope of independent filmmaking.

An exciting new prospect of the pilot campaign is the inclusion of the Woodstock Film Festival Glass Cam, Google glasses that will be used during the festival events for coverage as well as demonstrational and educational purposes for students. The Daily Freeman's Life Editor, Ivan Lajara, will head the WFF Glass Cam coverage and will provide a special instructional session to participating students.

"It is time to take distractions out of the classroom… and time to work them into the curriculum," says Social Media Director Jen Dragon who, alongside the WFF Social Media Team, was instrumental in the planning of this exciting new program. "…students will discover that their casual use of social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, Vine and YouTube can also be a powerful promotional tool for causes they care about."

Among the list of local schools involved in the project are Onteora High School, Woodstock Day School, Poughkeepsie Day School and Kingston High School. Encompassing WFF's motto "Fiercely Independent," this pilot program extends beyond promoting the Woodstock Film Festival, as it will give students the tools to use social media for a professional and education purpose.
WFF hopes for this new campaign to both spread awareness of the festival to a new demographic but also to engage students in a new world of marketing metrics, filmmaking, personal branding and social networking.

This year's festival will take place from October 2-6 in Woodstock, NY and the neighboring towns of Kingston, Saugerties, Rhinebeck and Rosendale. Stay tuned for the announcement of additional honorary award recipients as well as more news on the upcoming festival events and lineup by following WFF on social media as well as keeping up to date with our official website at www.woodstockfilmfestival.com.
