SYNOPSIS:
Who would have thought that of all places, Boise, Idaho, an idyllic town set in America's heartland, would be the country's epicenter of surrogacy? Yet this all-American town is indeed the place where gay couples, singles and those who struggle with infertility go to start their families through surrogacy. With rare access and an empathetic eye, Made in Boise follows four dedicated women who selflessly put themselves forward (sometimes multiple times) to fulfill the dreams of parenthood for those who need assistance. The span of emotions that the surrogates, their families and the perspective parents experience are nakedly on display as they navigate the rigors of pregnancy and the mixed feelings of their loved ones, who sometimes struggle to understand their choice to risk the physical and emotional complications of carrying babies for someone else. A heartfelt story that epitomizes what it is to give of yourself for the happiness of others. —Monique Ray
