SYNOPSIS:
Lila is an artist and teacher who has built a modest rural paradise in New York's Catskill Mountains with her writer husband, Edgar, and their teen daughters. Soon after the girls head off on summer adventures, Edgar reveals he's started a new family with another woman, leaving Lila alone for a season of anger, revenge and self re-discovery. In a performance by Talia Balsam that is remarkable for its realism and range of emotions, Lila explores the light and dark corners of grief, anger and desire, kindled by the attentions of one of her daughter's friends, while exacerbated by her best friend battling cancer. As Lila's world overturns, those who count on her likewise come undone. In a story that is counterbalanced by the quiet beauty of it's mountain setting, it is possible to believe that better times are still ahead. —Monique Ray
