On Saturday, October 15, The 2016 Honorary Trailblazer Award will be presented by Academy Award-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu, (The Revenant, Birdman, Babel, 21 Grams) to David Linde, the CEO of Participant Media, a global company dedicated to inspiring social change through films like the recent Best Picture Oscar winner Spotlight. Linde is responsible for leading the company's overall strategy, day-to-day operations, content creation, advocacy, strategic investments and acquisitions. Linde joined Participant in late 2015, as the company was releasing twelve major films, including Spotlight, Beasts of No Nation and Bridge of Spies.
The honorary Fiercely Independent Award will be presented by actor Ben Foster to Oren Moverman, Academy Award-nominated Oren Moverman is the writer/director of the recently shot The Dinner, (starring Richard Gere and Laura Linney), and Time out of Mind. He is the winner of the International Critics Award at the 2014 Toronto Film Festival. Moverman also directed Rampart and his directorial debut The Messenger, which garnered a nomination for the 2010 Best Screenplay Award and other accolades. He is also a much-acclaimed screenwriter with credits including Love and Mercy.
Actor Ben Foster, who co-starred in The Messenger and Rampart, will present the Award to Moverman. Foster is best known for Freaks & Geeks, Six Feet Under and major roles in many movies including X-Men: The Last Stand, Alpha Dog, 3:10 to Yuma, The Messenger, The Mechanic, Rampart, Kill Your Darlings, Lone Survivor and Warcraft.
Academy Award-winning director Barbara Kopple, Harlan County USA, , will present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Leon Gast, a two-time Academy Award-winning director, producer, cinematographer, and editor, best known for the Oscar-winning documentary, When We Were Kings
The evening will begin with cocktails at 7pm, followed by the Awards at 9pm. Complimentary food and beverages are included.
