Reconquest Of The Useless is a documentary film that follows the travails of three young men as they journey nearly 5,000 miles through the Peruvian Amazon searching for inspiration, adventure and the legacy of Werner Herzog's classic film Fitzcarraldo thirty years after it was made. Like Fitzcarraldo, who dreamed of building an opera house in the jungle, and Herzog himself, with his transcendent vision of cinema, the creators of Reconquest Of The Useless also pursue quixotic dreams: to travel without being tourists and to have transformative experiences by exploring what is rarely sought after. Imbued with the spirit of Fitzcarraldo, the ultimate film for impossible dreamers, Reconquest Of The Useless is about the quest for the ineffable and unknown, and where that path can take you. A true journey for the audience to embark upon.

Born in Los Angeles, the son of producer Edward R. Pressman and actress Annie McEnroe, Sam Pressman grew up in New York City. He returned to California to study film at Stanford University, near San Francisco. While at Stanford, Pressman was active in the Stanford Film Society (SFS) and Advanced Filmmakers Workshop (AFW) and served as President and Director of the SFS and AFW from 2010-2012.

Pressman created the Behind the Scenes documentary on Werner Herzog's Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, and has also worked for Terrence Malick on Tree of Life, Timothy Linh Bui on Powder Blue, and Matt Brown on The Man Who Knew Infinity.

Pressman directed the short documentary Tres Fonteras on the border of Peru, Brazil and Colombia, while making Reconquest of the Useless.
