SYNOPSIS:
Sleight of hand…illusion…smoke and mirrors... Call it what you will, it’s all magic just as long as you can get away with it.
BIO:
Alexis Manya Spraic is an award winning filmmaker based in Los Angeles and New York. Her work includes Ray Charles America, a feature doc for A&E Indiefilms. She also directed, produced and edited Shadow Billionaire, a feature that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and is currently playing on CNBC. Her work has been seen on HBO, Showtime PBS, A&E, and IFC among others, as well as theatrically and internationally and at major festivals around the world.

Spraic most recently directed POWER, a high profile feature-documentary about energy that was filmed in 12 countries. POWER, is currently in post-production and will premiere later this year.

The Charlatan, is her first foray into narrative filmmaking. She is currently developing it into a feature.

Her work as a producer and editor includes the critically acclaimed film Jean-Michel Basquiat: A Radiant Child, (Sundance 2010). It was broadcast on the PBS series, “Independent Lens.” She also produced and edited the top-rated HBO documentary, Cat Dancers, for which she won a Special Jury Prize at SXSW. Maxed Out, another SXSW Jury prizewinner, was released theatrically by Magnolia Pictures before its TV premiere on Showtime and broad DVD release.

Other editing credits include the Grammy-nominated Respect Yourself: The Stax Records Story, for PBS’ series “Great Performances” and Search and Destroy: Iggy Pop and the Stooges’ Raw Power, for Sony Music Entertainment.

In addition to her documentary work, Alexis edited Red Sands,, a psychological thriller starring J. K. Simmons and Shane West distributed by Sony Pictures, and worked in the editorial department on the cult hit Wristcutters,. She has recently ventured into commercial directing with campaigns for Dove/Unilever andAmerican Licorice, Inc.
