Kevin Lau
A frog, a seamstress and a factory king all collide in this tragic love story.
Kevin Lau is a writer and director born and raised in Los Angeles to working- class, immigrant parents. He spent much of his youth navigating multiple cultures at home and in the city, weaving in and out of the diverse communities surrounding him. A Regents Scholar at UCLA, Kevin expressed his experiences with both music and photography before finding a home in filmmaking.

His first short film, Year of the Dog, influenced by a robbery he witnessed at his parents' take-out restaurant, played at film festivals across the nation, garnering multiple awards. He then directed an emotionally-charged stage play in Downtown Los Angeles, "The Best Man," earning him praise in the LA Times and Backstage West.

A former theatrical film distributor and film festival programmer, Kevin left California in 2009 to pursue his artistic ambitions full- time at Columbia University. His thesis film, Made In Chinatown, premieres this year on the festival circuit, and explores marginalized characters as they navigate social and economic strata against a visually arresting backdrop. Kevin is currently developing several character-driven epics, giving voices to quiet stories in a very loud way.
