David Portnoy is a 15 year-old birding fanatic who has made the discovery of a lifetime…or so he thinks. Now, on the eve of his father’s remarriage he sets out with his two best friends on a bizarre road trip to confirm his rare sighting. Nerdy, naive, and totally unequipped to handle the challenges of the real world, the band hold it together through misfortune upon misadventure as well as their own ineptitude. Rob Meyer’s feature debut is a unique coming of age comedy featuring Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley as David’s ornithologist idol. As David begins to come to terms with his father’s impending marriage he realizes that there is more to life than his birding obsession. Featuring winning performances by Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In) and Kingsley and filmed in the Hudson Valley, A Birder's Guide is a hilarious and heartwarming comedy. –Michael Burke
