Woodstock Film Festival expands to add 3D movie to its 2014 line-up at Regal Cinemas in Kingston

(Woodstock, NY) September 2014-The 15th annual Woodstock Film Festival is pleased to announce that the Regal Cinemas in Kingston will serve as the newest screening venue for the 2014 festival, joining with the neighboring towns of Woodstock, Saugerties, Rosendale and Rhinebeck, and adding to a growing list of festival locations. This will be the first time that the Woodstock Film Festival will be showing films in Kingston, and the first 3D film of the festival. THE WORLD PREMIERE of Antarctica 3D: On the Edge directed by Jon Bowermaster, will be screening Sunday, October 19 at 10:30am at Regal Cinemas in Kingston. A conversation and Q&A with Jon Bowermaster will follow. Tickets are available ONLINE.

The Woodstock Film Festival has a long-standing history with Kingston, holding its annual Maverick Awards Ceremony at Backstage Studio Productions at 323 Wall Street, among other various events throughout the years. This year's Maverick Awards will take place there on Saturday, October 18, from 7-11pm. The 2014 honorary award recipients include Darren Aronofsky, presented by Jennifer Connelly, and actor/filmmaker Mark Duplass, presented by Tom Quinn. Tickets are available ONLINE.

"Now in its 15th year the Woodstock Film Festival continues to showcase impressive works of independent filmmakers and screenwriters from all parts of the world. It is an event that is always well put together and includes the City of Kingston in celebrating."- Mayor Shane R. Gallo, City of Kingston

With a reputation as cold, forbidding and remote, Antarctica can also be a fragile place, home to an incredible variety of life along its edges. Join National Geographic explorer Jon Bowermaster as he and his team travel along the continent's frozen coastline in Antarctica 3D, On The Edge. The adventurers explore by sea kayak, ice-worthy sailboat and on foot to gain an up-close look and attempt to better understand just how the seventh continent is changing and in some parts changing very fast -- in part due to a warming ocean. Meet scientists and the wildlife they study up-close and learn about the history of exploration and the continent's future. From its place anchoring the bottom of the globe, Antarctica might seem too frozen to have any impact on the rest of the planet. But the very fact that it is constantly changing – the sea around it freezing and thawing every year – makes it the planet's beating heart, its rhythm intimately influencing the earth's weather, ocean currents and climate.

A six-time grantee of the National Geographic Expeditions Council and award-winning writer and filmmaker Bowermaster was recently named one of a dozen Ocean Heroes by the NGS. Author of twelve books, his companion book to the Jacques Perrin/DisneyNature film Oceans was published alongside the film's U.S. premiere. One of Bowermaster's most recent documentaries include Dear Governor Cuomo, a unique look at the controversy surrounding fracking in New York State, and played at the 2012 Woodstock Film Festival. Films in-production include Dear President Obama, Americans Against Fracking In One Voice, Free Swim: Maldives and After the Spill. For more on Jon Bowermaster, visit www.jonbowermaster.com.

Woodstock Film Festival extends a special thank you to its supporters and looks forward to joining the thriving artists and cultural community of Kingston and welcoming Kingston residents to attend Antarctica 3D: On the Edge this October.
