Woodstock, NY (July 23, 2012) – On Saturday, July 21, the Woodstock Film Festival celebrated its 2nd Annual Spirit of Woodstock on the Hudson. The event, honoring NY State Congressman of 38 years, Maurice Hinchey, went off wit hout a hitch as guests enjoyed the beautiful, scenic “Ledgerock” home along the river.
Actor Aidan Quinn gave a heartfelt and empowering speech, speaking of the “state of mind” that is the Spirit of Woodstock award and how Congressman Hinchey embodies it.
“I would venture to say it’s about community, taking care of each other and taking good care of the world we live in,” said Quinn. “It’s about preserving our natural and cultural heritage for generations to come… It’s about having a clear vision of a better world, with the courage and determination to put your shoulder to the grindstone to make it happen…and that is precisely what Maurice has done.”
As the sun began to set along the river and warm hues enveloped the patio of “Ledgerock,” the retiring Congressman Hinchey stepped up to the microphone to enormous applause. “I’m very proud to have represented Woodstock- America’s oldest art colony and proud to say I’ve spent the past 38 years working to provide resources to advance the arts and ensure that our painters, dancers, musicians and filmmakers receive proper attention from their government and local communities,”Hinchey said.
The Congressman talked about his deep connection with the arts and longtime support of what the Woodstock Film Festival and Hudson Valley Film Commission bring to New York.
“Over the past 12 years the festival has become an integral part of the economic and cultural fabric of Ulster County,” continued Hinchey. “[Both organizations] have been instrumental in nurturing the huge growth in the film industry throughout the Hudson Valley and Catskill regions.”
After the presentation of the award, handcrafted by Fabulous Furniture’s Steve Heller, guests were treated to an array of fresh, contemporary Italian cuisine generously provided by Woodstock’s Cucina.
2012 WFF Sponsors Hendrick’s Gin and Hudson Whiskey were on hand to supply them with a taste of their product. Additional event sponsors Brotherhood Winery, Whitecliff Vinyards, Warwick Valley Winery and Shawangunk Valley Wine Trail allowed guests to mingle about sampling a variety of the Hudson Valley’s best drinks.
An enthusiastic crowd showed up to support the event, which helped WFF raise much needed funds, will allow the organization to keep the fall festival in motion, as well as its year round events including the Youth Initiative and Hudson Valley Programmers Group.
Jazz musicians Joel Bluestein and Peter Buettner created a welcoming atmosphere to which local songstress Sarah Fimm added her smooth vocals.
The buffet was followed by a live DJ as guests danced and explored the breathtaking home. A sampling of classic Italian desserts also provided by Cucina topped off the night. The Spirit of Woodstock, which took place across the river in Hyde Park, compliments WFF’s goal to serve the entire Hudson Valley and Catskill region.
The Woodstock Film Festival would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make the event a success. The festival is currently gearing up towards its 13th edition coming up October 10-14.
