The Times They Are A’Changing
HD CENTRAL
AT THE BEARSVILLE THEATER - “The House That Dylan Built”
OCT. 10-14.
Woodstock Film Festival Dedicates A Theater Venue
Exclusively For High Definition Films
(Woodstock NY) Sept. 18: For the first since it’s inception eight years ago, the Woodstock Film Festival is launching HD Central, a screening venue dedicated exclusively to high definition films, during the 8th annual indie fest, Wednesday through Sunday, Oct. 10-14.
HD Central headquarters will be at The Bearsville Theater, on Route 212, two miles from the Woodstock Green, a one of a kind hand-built theater that was the mastermind of Albert Grossman, the long-time manager of Bob Dylan (and Janis Joplis, Jimi Hendrix and Peter, Paul and Mary). The theater has served as a screening venue since the first festival, but is changing with the times, according to WFF co-founder Laurent Rejto:
“True to the trend in the industry, we are seeing more and more films being submitted on HD rather than the traditional 35 mm or Beta SP, and we are responding to the needs of the digital age. With the addition of a dedicated HD screening venue, these films will now be able to be seen the way filmmakers meant them to be seen.”
High-definition (HD) video generally refers to any video system of higher resolution than standard-definition (SD). Given that there is increasing use of computer-generated or computer-altered imagery in movies, and that editing picture sequences is often done digitally, many directors are now shooting their movies using the HD format via high-end digital video cameras. Although film stock generally retains a wider dynamic range than HD, the new format generally costs less than film and is easier to transfer to editing systems for special effects.
Films to be screened at HD Central include:
Oswald's Ghost, Good Ol' Charles Schulz, War/Dance, The Unforeseen, Neal Cassady, The Living Wake, Liberty Kid, Iron Ladies of Liberia, In Search of a Midnight Kiss, Dark Matter, Constantine's Sword, Choose Connor, Chasin' Gus' Ghost, The Cake Eaters, August Evening, 3 Americas.
