WOODSTOCK FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES THE U.S. PREMIERE OF OSWALD’S GHOST; DIRECTOR ROBERT STONE, OTHERS, TO PARTICIPATE IN SCREENING
(Woodstock NY) – May 16, 2007: Conspiracy theorists and nail biters alike will delight – and surely debate, post screening – at the U.S. premiere of Oswald’s Ghost, to be spotlighted during the Woodstock Film Festival this October.
Oscar-nominated director Robert Stone (GUERRILLA: THE TAKING OF PATTY HEARST, RADIO BIKINI) dissects and deconstructs the now infamous story of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The film includes detailed archival footage, as well as interviews with politicians Tom Hayden and Gary Hart, journalists Dan Rather and Norman Mailer and attorneys Mark Land and now deceased New Orleans D.A. Jim Garrison, the latter made famous in the other Stone film, Oliver Stone’s J.F.K.
But in addition to batting around the “whodunit” of the Kennedy assassination, Stone also focuses on the lingering, obsessing effects of the killing and his theory that it changed America forever – similar, in many ways, to 9/11 and its aftermath. “I’ve wanted to make this film ever since I saw Oliver Stone’s JFK nearly 15 years ago and witnessed the extraordinary reaction to it,” said Stone. “I’m fascinated with how people see and interpret history and the world around them.”
Stone continued, “I couldn’t be happier than to have this film premier at the Woodstock Film Festival. Not only is it a great festival that’s gaining recognition and stature with each passing year, it’s also my local film festival, so I’m right at home. My experience here with my last film, GUERILLA, was terrific. The audiences are smart and engaged and I look forward to some very lively Q&A’s. Check your prejudices and preconceptions at the door.”
Stone and other key figureheads from the film are expected at the screening.
Oswald’ Ghost will headline Woodstock Film Festival’s Exposure program, featuring panels, and thought-provoking international films that emphasize social, political and environmental concerns. Films from past years that were included in WFF’s Exposure include Academy Award winner Barbara Kopple’s SHUT UP & SING in 2006 and Academy Award nominees Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady’s THE BOYS OF BARAKA in 2005, to name a few.
