WOODSTOCK FILM FESTIVAL TO SNEAK PREVIEW THE PAINTED VEIL, DEC 2ND, 1:00 PM

Written by the Hudson Valley's Academy Award nominee Ron Nyswaner, directed by John Curran, and starring Edward Norton, Naomi Watts, Liev Schreiber and Toby Jones.

(Woodstock NY) November 13, 2006: The Woodstock Film Festival, as part of its year-round screening series, and in association with Warner Independent Pictures, will offer a special sneak preview of one of this year’s most aniticipated new films, THE PAINTED VEIL.

Based on the classic novel by W. Somerset Maugham, THE PAINTED VEIL is a love story set in the 1920s that tells the story of a young English couple, Walter, a middle class doctor and Kitty, an upper – class woman, who get married for the wrong reasons and relocate to Shanghai, where she falls in love with someone else. When he uncovers her infidelity, in an act of vengeance, he accepts a job in a remote village in China ravaged by a deadly epidemic, and takes her along. Their journey brings meaning to their relationship and gives them purpose in one of the most remote and beautiful places on earth.

The sneak preview is set for Saturday, December 2nd, at 1:00 PM at Upstate Films, 6415 Montgomery Street, Rhinebeck. A Q&A with the film’s screenwriter Ron Nyswaner will follow. A Hudson Valley resident, Nyswaner was nominated for an Academy Award for the screenplay of PHILADELPHIA. Other screenplays include SOLDIER’S GIRL and MRS. SOFFEL. His first book, "Blue Days, Black Nights: A Memoir," was nominated for a Lambda Literary award.
