THE MITCH SHOW TO MIX FILM AND LIVE COMEDY AT 2006WFF

The 2006 edition of the Woodstock Film Festival will present The Mitch Show, a retrospective of comedic short films spanning the oeuvre of the as-yet-not-dead, Hollywood-based filmmaker Mitchell Rose.

The program also includes several audience-participation, humorous performance pieces by this professional wisenheimer. The Mitch Show takes place Saturday, October 14 at 9:45 p.m. at the Woodstock Community Center. Tickets are $8 and may be purchased at www.woodstockfilmfestival.com or by calling (845) 679-6997.

Prior to becoming a filmmaker, Rose was a New York-based performance artist specializing in comedic work. The New York Times has called him "A rare and wonderful talent ... Woody Allen, with more than a dash of Abbie Hoffman thrown in." The Washington Post has written that his work is "in the tradition of Chaplin, Keaton, and Tati -- funny and sad and more than the sum of both."

Following a successful career in dance, Rose chose to become a filmmaker, entering The American Film Institute as a Directing Fellow. Since graduating A.F.I., his films have won 48 film festival awards and are screened around the world on television and in locations as diverse as the Getty Museum and the CBS JumboVision in Times Square.

In addition to two audience-participation pieces, The Mitch Show features festival favorite Modern Daydreams, a suite of four Chaplinesque films that see a man and a 22-ton John Deere excavator dance a dance of discovery, fulfillment, and eventually, the loss that any diesel-based relationship must suffer. Modern Daydreams has been called "a triumph in short filmmaking—nothing short of brilliant" by FilmFinder.

Also screening is Elevator World, an essay on the spatial politics of elevator riding that has been hailed as "a computer masterpiece" by The CBS Evening News. Case Studies from the Groat Center for Sleep Disorders, deemed "hilarious" by The New York Times, is a faux-scientific investigation of sleep disorder as audiences are offered a glimpse of rare archival footage from the renowned (but fictitious) clinic of the same name.

Films of Mitchell Rose can be previewed on www.MitchellRose.com.
