WORLD CLASS LINEUP OF ANIMATED FILMS ON VIEW AT 2005 WOODSTOCK FILM FESTIVAL
Animated Shorts Programmed by Legendary animator Bill Plympton and Signe Baumane
(Woodstock, NY) September 14, 2005 --- The Sixth Annual 2005 Woodstock Film Festival (September 28th through October 2nd) today announced its diverse slate of animated shorts.
ANIMATION
Animation veterans Signe Baumane (Woman, Natasha, Five F*cking Fables) and Bill Plympton (Hair High, Guard Dog, The Tune, Mutant Aliens) programmed the WWF 2005 lineup of animated films and each contributed a piece to the festival. In 2004, their selections include Ryan, which went on to win both the Woodstock Award then the Oscar. Plympton Guard Dog, and Gopher Broke (below) were also nominated. )Their 2005 selections, which will play in two programs, ANIMATION, and ANIMATION FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES) include:
- Dentist, by Signe Baumane. An enthusiastic dentist, a reluctant patient, and a strange picture on the wall…
- The Fan and the Flower, by Bill Plympton. An ill-fated and unconsummated romance between a fan and a flower. But with a magical, fairy tale ending.
- 9, by Shane Acker. Awarded the2005 Student Academy Award for animated shorts, 9 is the story of an eponymous rag doll who witnesses the murder of his mentor, 5, by a mechanical beast. Only through cunning and the use of primitive technology can 9 hope to destroy the monster and steal the talisman of trapped souls it carries as a trophy.
- Cold War, by Brian Garrigan. Nominated for a 2005 Student Academy Award, Cold War portrays two planet settlers who claim their stake in a high-tech mix of old meets new.
- Life in Transition, by Academy Award nominated animator John Dilworth. a visual and symbolic journey depicting the continual transformations of life from birth to death to re-birth.
- And other selections including Fauna Sutra (the Netherlands) by Johan Klungel, Gopher Broke, by Jeff Fowler, Handshake, by Patrick Smith, Insomnia (from Latvia) by Vladimir Leschiov, Learn Self Defense, by Chris Harding, Moonraker by Fran Krause, Der Park (from Austria) by Nicholas Mahler, Return I will to Old Brazil by Alex Budovsky, The Back Brace by Andy and Carolyn London, 529 (The Netherlands, Belgium) by Maarten de With and Niek Castricum, Petunia by Aaron Hughes.
- Animation for Kids of all ages selections include some of the above and Cytoplasms in Acid Environment (Spain) byIrene Iborra, David Gautier, and Eduard Puertas, Surly Squirrel by Peter Lepeniotis, and The Zit by Mike Blum.
- Other festival selections that round out the Animation for Kids of All Ages program(sponsored by Rondout Saving Bank) include Aquarium by Nina Roden, Revenge of the Brick, and Clone Trooper Orchestra by Royce Graham.

The ‘fiercely independent’ Woodstock Film Festival celebrates its 6th Anniversary in 2005, from Wednesday, September 28 through Sunday, October 2. The WFF presents more than 150 films, panels, concerts, and special events at venues in Woodstock and its neighboring towns of Rhinebeck, Rosendale, and Hunter.
