The Woodstock in the City Film Series and Indiepix
kick off the summer with the New York premiere of  Frank Popper’s
CAN MR. SMITH GET TO WASHINGTON ANYMORE?

(Woodstock NY) June 15, 2006:  This month The Woodstock Film Festival (WFF) will expand its year round screening series Woodstock in the City, to include a summer series at the Makor Screening Room, sponsored by Indiepix.net. Festival Director Meira Blaustein stated, “We are very excited to be working together with Indiepix.net to provide emerging filmmakers a platform in which to exhibit their work in an intimate New York City setting. Creating a dialogue between filmmakers and audience members is mutually beneficial and a natural extension of the festival experience, which is entirely different from the DVD and Internet culture that permeates us all”.

The first of the summer screening series is set for Wednesday, June 28th at 7:30 PM at MAKOR, 35 West 67th Street (between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue). Q & A with filmmaker Frank Popper will follow along with a reception, hosted by Indiepix.net. Tickets are $15 for general public, and $10 for WFF and Indiepix.net supporters. Other screenings are set for July 20, August 1 & August 17 . Visit Woodstock Film Festival for updated info about the series and tickets.

The documentary, which made its World Premiere at the 2006 Silverdocs Festival, is a riveting, edge-of-seat story about Jeff Smith, a 29-year old underdog campaigning for Congress. With a group of like-minded idealists, the young spitfire, lacking experience, funding, and even familial support, tirelessly campaigns against career politicians backed by the wealthy and powerful. Inspiring and rousing, CAN MR. SMITH GET TO WASHINGTON ANYMORE? is proof that there is still room in our increasingly corrupt, corporatized political system for one determined individual to incite change.
