Christian is a sophisticated, liberal and respected curator of a contemporary art museum who is about to launch a daring new exhibit titled The Square, when in a blink of an eye, everything changes. One minute a successful man in control of his life and his surroundings, Christian becomes a victim of a theft of his wallet and phone, and is pulled into a whirlpool of events that gets more and more bizarre before it balances out again. A rich and entertaining satire that takes on the Swedish art scene, politics and human nature, The Square boasts stellar performance by Christian (Claes Bang) and Anne (Elizabeth Moss) as it takes you on a ride through individual and societal behavior.
As an avid skier, Ruben Östlund directed ski films for five years, until his mid 20's, testifying his taste for long sequence shots. He went on to study film at the University of Gothenburg where he developed his knowledge of constructed and well thought out sequence shots which has continued to evolve through all his films. His work is best described as humorous and accurate observations of human social behavior, film blended with sociology. His last three feature films have premiered in Cannes and his latest film Turist won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize in 2014. It was distributed in over 75 territories and became a theatrical box-office success. Ruben Östlund is also a professor of film at the Academy of Fine Arts Gothenburg Sweden.
