Against The Wind follows a handful of practitioners of the almost forgotten sport as they take advantage of one of the coldest winters the Hudson River Valley has seen in decades. These yachters are intent on taking full advantage of one of the deepest, longest ice sheets on the Hudson in years, knowing they might not see its like again anytime soon.
BIO: Tomasz Gubernat is a filmmaker based in Brooklyn, New York City. His interest in urbanism and the forces that influence the built environment motivated his short video portrait City of Shanghai which debuted at the Venice Architecture Biennial in 2006. Recently he has engaged his intellectual and artistic commitments toward his local community by documenting the changing built environment of North Brooklyn and interviewing residents affected by displacement.
Christopher Nostrand is a 25 year old up and coming filmmaker from upstate Kingston, New York. Living in the Hudson Valley for most of his life he enjoys exploring enviromental, humanitarian, and philosophical themes. He Currently attends Graduate School for Integrated Media Arts at Hunter College in New York City and owns and operates his multimedia business Nostrand Productions.
