It's midnight;and Frightmare Theatre is about to begin! Your Host sets the scene: After a violent car accident a group of friends become stranded in the middle of nowhere. Quickly deciding to search for help, they come upon a deserted farm. Once the secrets of the barn are unleashed, the night of terror begins! An enormous roost of vampire bats is disturbed. They fill the sky in search of their new prey. As the hellish night goes on people are bittená and once they are bitten they change. They become not like themselves; they become The Undead! The friends are split up, scared, secluded, and trapped within the old barn. They must deal with their surroundings, fight for their survival, and... they must kill each other. They must try to escape!"A movie with bats in its belfry, The Roost celebrates and restores the 1970s B-horror pic with zero gloss and terrific, rough-hewn craft. Imagining what happens when a group of young people en route to a friend's wedding get sidetracked at a farm taken over by vampire bats, debuting helmer Ti West taps into the realist-horror spirit of mentor and executive producer Larry Fessenden." (Robert Koehler, Variety) |
Ti West gained Larry Fessenden's attention after mutual friend and teacher, filmmaker Kelly Reichardt (RIVER OF GRASS) introduced the pair in the fall of 2000. In 2001, West wrote, directed, edited, produced, and photographed the short film THE WICKED as part of a sophomore year film project. Fessenden was so impressed with the film that he hired West to work as an intern on the making-of featurette for the DVD of his own film NO TELLING. THE WICKED later went on to play in numerous film festivals nationwide, including the Slamdance Anarchy Film Festival and the Hollywood Underground Film
Festival. Recently Doug Liman's (SWINGERS, THE BOURNE IDENTITY) company Hypnotic purchased THE WICKED for distribution. Hypnotic is one of the largest short film distributors in the world, and the coproducers of the hit television show THE O.C.West is the recipient of the 1999 Rhode Island School of Design Award, winner of Best Director of a Student Film at the 2001 New York International Independent Film Festival, and a 2003 nominee for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography at the Dusty Film Festival. |
