TRIBUTE to Gary Winick
A special Tribute to Gary Winick was included in the ceremony, to honor the filmmaker and pioneering producer who passed away in February of this year from brain cancer at the age of 49. Winick rose to fame directing mainstream films like "Letters to Juliet" and "13 Going on 30," but is perhaps more well-known for his independent films and for co-founding InDigEnt, a company that produced nineteen independent digital films over the next decade, including Winick's own Tadpole, which sold for $6 million to Miramax at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival. Winick was an early supporter of the Woodstock Film Festival and a frequent participant in WFF programs. |

HASKELL WEXLER AWARD FOR BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY
Prize: $15,000 worth of film camera equipment
Sponsored by Panavision, NY
Handcrafted trophy designed by Steve Heller
JURY MEMBER\S: Haskell Wexler, A.S.C.
The award was presented by Ellen Kuras to producer Cara Marcous on behalf of Lol Crawley
The following comment was released by Mr. Wexkler regarding the film: "The selection of the best photography is very difficult. The one I have chosen, "On the Ice" shot by Lol Crawley, is noteworthy in a number of ways. Shot where the sun doesn't set until August, we see people moving in frames of negative space in incredibly difficult and artfully conceived shots. The party interiors offer smooth handheld work, where style fits visual storytelling in contrast with the formal, colder frames. All this is just me trying to give words to my subjective reaction to the visuals. And since I'm privileged to give this award, you can see that Lol Crawley's work deserves this Woodstock Award." |
